KCB are back to the top of the Betking Premier League (BPL) standings after a narrow 1-0 win over Bidco United at Thika Stadium on Wednesday.
With that win, the bankers managed to keep Bidco United at bay, recording their eleventh clean sheet and preventing their opponents from scoring in their seventh consecutive game in all competitions.
In a half with few clear-cut chances, Bidco United were the more adventurous side after kickoff and had the chance to take the lead but Keke’s effort went wide. KCB were solid at the back and kept the Bidco attackers at bay and had their best chance from a freekick but David Owino skied his effort over the bar.
Bidco did not rest on their laurels and continued searching for a goal and Keke was presented with another chance which again went narrowly wide. At the stroke of halftime and against the run of play, KCB finally took the lead after they were awarded a penalty and Derrick Otanga stepped up to score his seventh of the campaign and ensure his side led at the break.
Bidco continued with where they had left off but were finding it hard to breakdown the resolute bankers. With the half dragging on and as legs started becoming tired, KCB introduced Dennis Odhiambo and Martin Mbugua.
Bidco United were still determined to get something out of the match and made their first change with ten minutes to go but were unable to conjure up anything meaningful. Goal scorer Derrick Otanga who was on a yellow card was also withdrawn late on and KCB held on for the win.
Bidco United will now shift their attention to the match against Posta Rangers who they beat last time out. KCB have put themselves in a good position as the June 30th deadline approaches and face bottom placed Mathare United in their next game.
