Kenya Commercial Bank were on Friday 13th taken down 2-1 by a relegation-threatened Vihiga United at the Mumias Sports Complex, a result- that in comparison with Tusker’s 2-0 win over Homeboyz at Ruaraka, leaves the bankers clasping at the last straw with just two matches to go before the FKF Premier League comes to a close.
KCB started well, scoring in the 14th minute through Samuel Mwangi, and with their eyes set on the title, all looked good.
A little tight on the defense would have aided the bankers had they taken caution but youngster Lawrence Luvanda senses some complacency for the hosts of the day and restored parity just two minutes later.
Just before the break, the Vihiga United would claim the lead, and held on to win 2-1 at the break.
KCB came out stronger out the tunnel for the second half and Simon Munala troubled Prince Ayieko on 47 minutes but his tame effort came off the upright.
At the hour mark, Samuel Mwangi would surge forward on the right flank, only to be brought down by Mathew Odongo for United.
United defended resolutely, knowing how much a win would mean heading into the final two games of the season. And this they did, clinching a massive three points that take them one point ahead of Western Stima.
They next play Kakamega Homeboyz at the Bukhungu Stadium as KCB, now three points behind leaders Tusker, take on AFC Leopards.
