KCB and Gor Mahia settled for a point after sharing the spoils in a Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKF-PL) match at Thika Stadium on Sunday.

The result denied KCB an opportunity to dislodge Tusker off the league summit. The brewers beat Sofapaka 2-1 on Saturday.

Gor Mahia kicked off proceedings on a high voltage and narrowly missed taking the lead eight minutes into the match. Ernest Wendo cleverly chipped the ball to Tito Okello with the Ugandan-born South Sudan international beating David Ambulu off the ball, dribbled past Nashon Alembi but his final attempt to beat keeper Daniel Odiwuor failed after the custodian reacted well in time intercepting the danger. 

K’Ogalo came calling again three minutes into the quarter-hour mark, John Macharia had a good run down the right flank before setting Jules Ulimwengu through on goal, the Rwandan had his shot on goal saved by Duncan Odiwuor.

Ten minutes later, the bankers had their first attempt on goal through David Ambulu. The defender curled in a low beautiful shot from right at the edge of the box but Samuel Njau was in place to collect the attempt. 

Right at the half-hour mark, the bankers were on the hunt. On form striker Derrick Otanga almost gave the host the lead. The forward made a teasing turn past Joachim Olouch in the box chipped past his former teammate at Sony Sugar keeper Samuel Njua but his effort hit the post much to K’Ogalo’s relief. 

Five minutes before the break, Gor surged forward in the quest to get the opener, Tito Okello and Abdoul Karim combined well past Alemba and Harun Thomas but Okello’s shot went over the bar to bring the first half of action to a stalemate.

Gor Mahia got the second half just as they began the first half, quick interplay by Ulimwengu and Karim caused havoc on KCB’s defense but Alembi rushed to clear the ball off the line with Odiwuor beaten. 

Five minutes after the hour mark, KCB pressed for the opener. Samuel Mwangi made a quick run on the right flank, the midfielder spotted Nashon Alembi in K’Ogalo’s penalty area from a good cross but defender Frank Odhiambo reacted in time to clear the ball back to safety.

Bankers tactician Zedekiah Zico Otieno made changes to his attacking front bringing on Reagan Otieno and David Simiyu for David Ambulu and Mbugua Martin, the changes added depth up front in the quest for the opener. 

Twenty minutes from time, substitute Reagan Otieno made a quick run on the right flank setting a deep cut back delivery to Baraka Badi, the defender on a first touch control hit a hard shot on goal but a steady Njua Samuel made a good save. 

Against the run of play, KCB came knocking again, Samuel Mwangi had a perfect delivery to David Simiyu in the penalty area, the forward went past Juma Andrew but his final effort lacked enough power for an easier pick for Njau   Njau’s catch brought the last bit of action as the two teams settled for a point in Thika.
