KCB FC fought off a stern challenge from FKFPL newcomers Police FC to register a 2-1 win in the sides’ week 5 encounter played at the Utalii grounds on Saturday.
Second half goals from James Mazembe and Henry Eshiboko either side of a John Makwatta penalty, secured the Bankers’ second win of the campaign and one that lifts them up to 7th on the standings pending results from elsewhere.
Struggling to replicate their performances from last season that saw them narrowly miss out on the title, KCB needed a win on Saturday to help ease the pressure after claiming just five points from their opening four games.
After an uneventful opening half, the game sprung into life in the second with Mazembe, for the second successive game, coming up with a crucial goal. Against Sofapaka last week he scored a late winner but on Saturday it was him who got the ball rolling after 66 minutes with a sumptuous freekick from just outside the area.
The goal would however stand for just 10 minutes before being cancelled out by a Makwatta penalty after Michael Mutinda had handled in the area.
Not looking to drop points and falling further down the log, KCB responded immediately to the equalizer with Eshiboko getting the game winner just two minutes later.
Police, who have had an amazing off-season transfer window thus far, will feel they were worth of at least a point on Saturday and will now need to regroup quickly having now suffered three losses from their opening four matches.
