Kariobangi Sharks got back to winning ways in style with a 1-0 win over AFC Leopards in Wednesday’s Betking Premier League match 1-0 at Thika Stadium.
This was their first win this month courtesy of Eric Kapaito’s penalty and they climbed back to fifth where they have been most of the season. AFC Leopards rarely threatened and the loss compounded their slow decline as it was the third in their last five games.
Sharks threatened first after Peter Lwasa’s weighted through ball found Reagan Odede but his effort was way off target.
They continued laying siege to their opponents and Odede this time round made an excellent pass to Erick Kapaito but the top scorer could not direct his effort goalward.
Kariobangi Sharks who by then were the more attacking side nearly got the lead shortly after the hour mark but Douglas Mokaya’s effort from a freekick at the edge of the area hit the crossbar.
AFC Leopards finally got their first shot on target at the stroke of halftime from a long-range effort by Hansel but it was easily claimed by Shark’s goalkeeper Brian Olango.
AFC made a triple substitution at the start of halftime including subbing out their top scorer Elvis Rupia who was starved off service in the first period.
Kariobangi Sharks did not let their guard down and picked up from where they left and they soon scored the first goal of the game.
Defender Yusuf Mainge made a rash challenge on Kapaito and he stepped up to confidently dispatch the spot kick and give his side the lead.
A few minutes later, Said Tsuma then misplaced a pass in their defensive third and James Mazembe intercepted it but his shot was saved by Benjamin Ochan. AFC Leopards could not find a way past Shark’s defense who did well to see out the win and get back to winning ways.
