AFC Leopards ended the Football Kenya Federation Premier League season on a losing note after going down 3-2 to Kakamega Homeboyz on Sunday at Thika Stadium.
It was an incredible result for Kakamega Homeboyz who had to come from two goals down to beat their opponents.
Kakamega Homeboyz flew off the blocks from the first minute and they pushed AFC Leopards backwards, getting three consecutive corner kicks but they were unable to hit the target from them.
They nearly got the lead soon afterwards after Eston Esiye unleashed a fierce drive and with Benjamin Ochan well beaten, his effort hit the crossbar.
Their early dominance nearly paid off after Shami Kibwana had a chance at goal but his effort was off target.
AFC Leopards slowly got a foothold of the match and after a lovely interchange in the box, Austin Odhiambo made no mistake when well placed to give his side the lead.
Leopards added another shortly after through Bienvenue Shaka but Homeboyz did not seem to give up and with halftime approaching, Leopard’s defender Robert Mudenyu was unfortunate to score into his own net to half the deficit as the teams went for halftime.
A lovely interchange of passes between Shami Kibwana and David Odhiambo created a chance for David Odhiambo but his effort went wide.
Elvis Rupia not wanting to miss out on the action almost added his sides lead but keeper Geoffrey Oputi made a wonderful goal line clearance to keep his side in the game.
With an hour of the game played, Homeboyz’s top scorer Shami Kibwana was at the right place and time to level terms for his side.
As the game edged closer to its end, Stephen Etyang scored the third goal to complete an incredible turn around to ensure Homeboyz finish sixth in the league.
