Homeboyz pile more misery on woeful Mathare as Gor suffer KCB defeat

Mathare United suffered yet another defeat as they went down 2-1 at the Kasarani Stadium Annex to visiting Kakamega Homeboyz on Sunday.

A lively first half saw all three goals scored with Chris Masinza and Sylvester Owino netting for Homeboyz and Tyson Otieno grabbing what turned out to be the consolation.

The loss put a dent towards Mathare’s hopes of getting out of the relegation zone as they remain second from bottom with nine points from 12 matches played. Homeboyz on their part move up to 11th with 18 points.

Super start

Masinza got Nicholas Muyoti’s charges off to a superb start, netting from the spot in the 6th minute after Norman Ogolla had handled in the box. Conceding early has been a normal occurrence for Mathare this season as in almost all their losses, they have fallen behind inside the first 10 minutes.

Owino would add to Homeboyz’ advantage midway through the stanza with an easy tap-in after the Mathare defenders had failed to deal with an Ali Bai freekick.

Mountain

This left Salim Ali’s charges with a mountain to climb early but they would halve the deficit on the stroke of halftime thanks to Otieno’s spotkick after Danson Kago had been impeded in the box.

A more defensive approach from Homeboyz in the second stanza saw them hold on to their lead with former Mathare midfielder Francis Omondi a key factor towards that as he marked his Homeboyz debut with a win.

Gor vs KCB

At the Kasarani main stadium Gor Mahia suffered their fifth loss in 12 matches as they went down 2-0 to KCB FC.

Goals in the final 15 minutes from Dennis Simiyu and Victor Omondi handed Bankers Coach Zedekiah Otieno a deserved win over his former side.

The win saw KCB get back to winning ways after their 3-0 loss to Kariobangi Sharks last weekend and now return back to 2nd place on the log with 29 points, six adrift of leaders Tusker.

Gor on their part remain in 8th place with 19 points.
