Ulinzi Stars were on Sunday 4th once again walloped at the Nakuru ASK Showground, this time at the hands of hot team Kakamega Homeboyz FC in a round 23 BetKing Premier League match played form 3 pm.
A brace from Shami Mwinyi and Allan Wanga’s single strike were enough to dismiss Ulinzi Stars 3-1, the solitary one from the soldiers scored by John Njuguna.
Ulinzi, playing as the away team, took an early foothold in the game with two clear cut chances in he opening ten minutes. Sylvester Owino arrived just in time to clear from the goal-line a John Njuguna attempt in the 9th minute. I the 11th, Masita Masuta would claim a penalty after his arrival in the box to meet Njuguna’s cross was stopped by Benjamin Oketch for Homeboyz.
Shami Kibwana’s corner-kicks after the 20th minute were the closest Homeboyz came to sniffing James Saruni’s goal post with one partucularly resulting into two other corner kicks as Ulinzi defended resolutely.
The two teams went into the break tied and Ulinzi knew not what lay in wait for them.
John Kago was the first introduction in the match, ten minutes after the restart and his arrival would be met by a Shami Kibwana opener. Homeboyz led from the former AFC Leopards, Thika United man.
As the visitors threw in Oscar Wamalwa in a bid to restore parity, Shami broke away, and after cleaning out the entire Ulinzi defense, goalkeeper Saruni included, lay the ball to Allan Wanga who tapped home for 2-0. The hosts were not done.
Shami occupied the left flank towards the closing stages of the tie with David Okoth shifting to the right. With four minutes of play left, Shami struck again, breaking away on the left flank to fire home from close range. Saruni stood no chance.
Homeboyz then threw in defender Collins Odhiambo for injured Benjamin Oketch in the closing stages. The visitors would score their consolation through John Njuguna late in injury time but their fate had already been sealed.
Homeboyz bounced back to winning ways with a 3-1 win.
