Kakamega Homeboyz FC edged hosts Vihiga Bullets 3-2 in a round 4 FKF Premier League contest staged at the Bukhungu Stadium on Sunday 31st from 1pm, a win that ensures they maintain their 100 percent start to the season.
A first half brace from Yema Mwana and a late effort from substitute Michael Karamor ensured Michael Isabwa and Kyambadde Rashid were mere consolations.
Having won all their opening three matches, Homeboyz were desperate for another so as to stay at the top of the FKF Premier League. Luckily for Bullets, they knew this and stayed behind the ball in the opening exchanges so as to keep the visitors at bay.
This they wouldn’t do for long as after a series of failed attempt on goal, Yema Mwamba rose the highest on thirty minutes to meet right-back Collins Odhiambo’s cross. It was inch perfect and the visitors in the derby took the lead.
Bullets, with nothing to lose now, had to come out and a lot of pressure yielded a goal upfront as Rashid Kyambadde restored parity. This was in the 38th minute, a goal that becomes the first conceded by Homeboyz this season.
Yema had other ideas though, latching onto a rebound from Collins Odhiambo’s attempt, he restored Homeboyz’s lead before the break.
Upon the restart, Coach Mwalala Bernard threw in Ahmed Ali Bhai for Eston Esiye in order to stabilise his midfield. In the 68th minute, Michael Karamor and Sunday Mutuku went in for David Okoth and George Odiwour. Bullets would earn a penalty in the 78th minute after a handball in the box and Mike Isabwa drew the hosts level at 2-2.
It all looked as if Bullets would earn their second point of the season but a relentless Homeboyz, eager to finish the month on a high, pushed upfront- a goal resulting in the 85th minute courtesy of Karamor.
It would end this was- Bullets scoring their first goals of the season yet losing, and Homeboyz making it four wins in four matches. They go joint top of the FKF Premier League table standings with Gor Mahia.
