Kakamega Homeboyz FC maintained their perfect start to the season with a dominant 2-0 win over table-toppers Posta Rangers FC, 1 pm FKF PL kick-off contest staged at the Bukhungu Stadium.
Goals from Francis Omondi and David Okoth sealed the win for Bernard Mwalala’s men against Stanley Okumbi’s Rangers.
Having suffered a 3-1 loss at home in their last encounter against Homeboyz, Okumbi’s men surged forward as soon as the kick-off whistle went and duly kept the hosts on their toes. Caleb Olilo down the attacking left was thorn in the flesh for Homeboyz in the opening ten minutes but he could not find their point-man Eliud Lokuwam.
Having studied the visitors’ strategy, the home side pulled a cagey response and would only occasionally launch attacks on the break. With David Okoth- brace hero from their last meeting, on the left, and captain Mudavadi Moses on the right, Posta too needed to be careful.
Homeboyz won a corner kick in the 17th minute and Okoth had his left foot behind it. Midfielder Francis Omondi’s connection to it would birth the first goal. The hosts led.
In the second half, Coach Okumbi threw in Francis Nambute and Joshua Nyatini in a bid to rejig his midfield and attack but all these came to naught as Homeboyz responded to each change with another of their own.
On the spoke of ninety minutes, Kennedy Owino brought down substitute Estone Esye just outside the box and was shown his second yellow card. Despite the free-kick going fruitless, Homeboyz struck in the first minute of injury time through David Okoth who found lots of space in the box.
Mwalala’s men held on to win 2-0. Their third win in three matches.
