Homeboyz dispatch Sofapaka in Wundanyi

Kakamega Homeboyz came from behind to dispatch Sofapaka 2-1 in a BetKing Premier League match played from 3 pm at the Wundanyi Stadium, Steven Wakanya and Stephen Opoku proving the difference in the clash.

Homeboyz- coached by Nicholas Muyoti and Bernard Mwalala started their usual high pressing game and nearly caught the hosts within the opening five minutes of the game. Sofa, however, rose to the occasion and stopped such names as Shami Kibwana and Allan Wanga in Homeboyz attack.

In the 10th minute, Sofa keeper erroneously fired a goalkick right into Allan Wanga but was lucky the rebound veered off the field for another goal kick.

Referee Badr Yassin would call for a water-break on 24 minutes and after resumption, Sofa took the lead through Ikhekhai Sunday as Homeboyz looked on stunned.

They would hold onto this lead, and perhaps should have held on a little bit more but Stephen Opoku, just five minutes into the second half, arrived in time to fire past Aigba for 1-1.

Wakanya Steve had been stable in the Homeboyz midfield and when he chose to stand behind a 75th minute free-kick from the edge of the box, Sofa needed to be worried. Wakanya fired Homeboyz into the lead.

Homeboyz pressed on for a 3rd, and earned another free-kick from the same spot as the first. This time it was Allan Wanga behind it and the Sofa wall did its job, deflecting it out for a corner kick.

Homeboyz held on to win 2-1.
