Hansel Ochieng scored a last-gasp goal as ten-man AFC Leopards overcame a stubborn Nairobi City Stars 1-0 in a Betking Premier League match played at the Kasarani Annex on Saturday afternoon.
The first half was a cagey affair with both teams creating a few chances. Five minutes into the second half, Leopards were reduced to ten men when Captain Robinson Kamura was given his marching orders. Substitute Hansel Ochieng then won it for Ingwe with a last-minute header.
Nairobi City Stars started the game well and had the first real chance of the game from a set-piece. Bolton Omwenga’s free-kick however went directly to Benjamin Ochan.
They continued to press in the early minutes in search of a breakthrough but Ingwe managed to keep them at bay as they slowly grew into the game.
Their first attempt came into the 16th minute through Eugene Mukangula who shot wide after being set up by Elvis Rupia. Mukangula threw away another easy chance in the 22nd minute, with almost an empty net at his disposal he shot wide. The first half ended barren.
Leopards were reduced to ten men five minutes into the second half when Robinson Kamura was shown a straight red card for bringing down Oliver Maloba who was through on goal. From the resultant free-kick, Anthony Kimani Kimani nearly beat Ochan but his effort went narrowly wide.
The game slowly turned physical with tough challenges being witnessed from both sides. Despite being a man down Leopards created a couple of chances that Rupia, Austin Odhiambo, and Caleb Olilo failed to take. On the other end City Stars failed to make their one-man advantage count. Their only bright spark at the top was substitute Rodgers Okumu who caused Leopards problems.
Just as it looked like the match would end even, Leopards won it at the death. Lewis Bandi found an unmarked Hansel Ochieng with a searching cross from the right and the forward did the needful powering past Steve Njunge for Ingwe’s winner.
