David Gateri’s strike after 30 mins at the Kasarani Stadium Annex, handed Bidco United a 1-0 win over Mathare United in a round 6 FKFPL fixture played on Saturday.
The veteran winger, latched on a wicked cross from Alex Sunga to poke the ball home against the run of play and inturn hand Bidco their first win of the campaign.
Bidco went into the game having picked up just three points from their opening five games and were desperate to get their season up and running and despite the uninspiring start, Anthony Akhulia’s men were buoyed, heading into Saturday’s early kickoff, by their previous showdowns with Mathare.
The Thika based side had won both of their matches against the Slumboys in the topflight and used this to get into the game early, putting pressure on a side still reeling from their 6-0 humbling by Kariobangi Sharks last time out.
Sunga was a constant menace down the left channel and one of his darting runs provided the game’s deciding moment, as he whipped in a low cross that beat everyone before it, save for Gateri who stretched himself to meet the ball and poke it past a hapless Job Ochieng.
Ochieng was the busiest of the two keepers in the opening stanza and did well to conceded only the one goal.
In the second period, after some personnel changes, Mathare were the more adventurous but the only talking points were the injuries to Stephen Waruru and Brian Opondo with both players looking in deep pain as they came off.
The win lifts Bidco one place over Mathare into 10th place with six points. Mathare remain in 11th, also with six points and will now hope to use the 10-day break for the internationals to regroup before their next outing.
