Western Stima completed an incredible comeback from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Kariobangi Sharks at Thika Stadium in Monday’s Betking Premier League (BPL) match.

Both sides started the game slowly with neither testing the others goal keeper in the opening stages.

Western Stima had the earliest chance to score but Michael Karamor’s effort was saved by Brian Olang’o.  Kariobangi Sharks slowly grew into the game and James Mazembe had a chance to give his side the lead but his effort went over the bar.

Stima then lost possession at the edge of their box and Eric Kapaito danced his way into he box before unleashing a fierce shot into the net and give his side the lead.

Shortly after, Western Stima got the chance to restore parity after Tom Teka fouled Baron Oketch in the box and the referee rightly pointing to the spot. Oketch took the penalty he had won but Olang’o denied him to retain his side’s  lead.

Things got better for Sharks after Patilah Omoto was fouled in the box and Eric Kapaito comfortably dispatched the second of the game and his eighteenth of the season.

He nearly scored a hattrick but his acrobatic effort went over the bar. At the stroke of halftime, a deep cross into the box found Rodgers Ouma who headed the ball downwards and into the net to half the deficit and keep his side in the game.

Stima came out all attacking in the second half, camping in their opponents third but the resolute Sharks defense was not letting anything bypass them.

Western Stima’s dominance in the second half finally bore fruit after a fine through ball from midfield left Baron Oketch one on one with the keeper and he chipped his effort to level matters and atone for his earlier penalty miss. Immediately after that goal, a quick counter attack by the home side nearly led to a goal but Kapaito missed the ball for an easy tap in.

Mazembe who had been lively throughout the match then squared the ball to Erick Juma but his effort went off target. Western Stima then rode off  wave after wave of pressure in the dying minutes and the point was enough to leapfrog Vihiga United and get out of the relegation places.
