Bandari FC and Nairobi City Stars played to a 1-1 draw in the two sides’ BetKing Premier League (BPL) round 24 encounter played on Sunday at the Mbaraki Sports ground in Mombasa.
Eric Ombija gave the visitors the lead almost immediately after the restart but William Wadri would ensure a share of the spoils with an expertly taken spotkick after 65 minutes.
The point earned left the two teams still tied on the standings, now on 33 points with Bandari in 6th place, one slot ahead of City Stars.
Both teams came into the game looking to creep their way into the Top 5 heading into the final nine matches of the season but solid defending on both ends of the pitch ensured that there was no outright winner though City Stars will head back to Nairobi the more satisfied.
Looking to achieve the league double over the Dockers, Kawangware based side City Stars opened the scoring in the 48th minute, against the run of play, when Ombija took advantage of a goalmouth melee that had ensued after a Peter Opiyo freekick had cannoned off the upright.
The goal sparked City Stars into life after a dull opening stanza but they would struggle to add to their advantage allowing the hosts to get back into the tie when Wycliffe Otieno handled in the area with Wadri stepping up to send Steve Njunge the opposite way.
And thus is how it would remain with both teams now extending their winless runs to two matches each.
