Nairobi City Stars shocked Tusker 1-0 in this Betking Premier League match at Ruaraka grounds on Friday.
The loss meant heir eight game unbeaten run was ended but the earlier loss by KCB means they are still at the top the league with five games left to play.
Coach John Amboko finally got his first win in charge as his side jumped up to fifth although the teams below them still have a game in hand.
In a match that City Stars created the better chances, Emery Mvuyekure was called into action as early as the seventh minute but pulled off a great save for a corner.
From the resultant corner, City Stars almost scored but Kenedy Onyango failed to connect with the ball.
They continued pouring bodies forward and Davis Agesa had a glorious chance after an inch perfect ball by Nicholas Kipkirui sent him one on one from six yards out but he failed to find the target for what might be the miss of the season.
Another cross from Stars’ right-hand side struck the arm of captain Eugene Asike but despite the handball shouts from City Stars players, referee Peter Waweru waved played on.
Tusker then had a rare chance on the break but John Macharia did not strike the ball cleanly and the resultant effort went wide. Kipkirui who was proving too hot to handle for Sammy Miseh almost gave his side the lead but his half volley went narrowly wide.
Simba wa Nairobi then had the final chance to score before the break but Agesa once again in one-on-one situation failed to hit the target after slipping just before he was about to pull the trigger.
City Stars did not reduce the tempo as they started the second half strongly and seven minutes later, they got a deserved lead.
A headed back pass from Eric Ambunya to his keeper did not have enough power and Ezekiel Odera was quicker to the ball where he calmly dispatched his effort to put his side on the front foot.
A few minutes later, Kipkirui who had been a livewire throughout the first half unleashed a fierce shot but Mvuyekure was equal to it.
Tusker then made a quartet of substitutions and substitute Faraj Odenyi almost had an immediate impact after his pass found Christopher Ochieng in the box but his effort had too much power and hit the crossbar in what was their biggest chance of the game.
City Stars were able to soak up the pressure in the dying minutes and are the team to have gotten the most points against Tusker so far with four out of six.
