Bidco United were 1-0 winners over Mathare United in the two teams’ BetKing Premier League (BPL) round 26 encounter staged at the Thika Sub-county Stadium on Thursday.
Eric Gichimu scored the only goal of the game late in the first-half to secure Bidco’s seventh win of the campaign that in turn lifts them up to 11th on the standings with 31 points.
It was for the second game this season that Gichimu has scored against Mathare, having also scored in the first-leg match-up at Kasarani in February.
Thursday’s loss further dents Mathare’s survival hopes and with eight matches now left to play, Frank Ouna’s team still remains rooted at the bottom of the log with 14 points, four adrift of safety.
Mathare never truly created problems for Bidco despite having plenty of the ball, especially in the opening stanza, and were hit against the run of play when Gichimu scored with a trademark header from a setpiece.
Setpiece play has been one of Bidco’s strongest points in their debut campaign with Gichimu one of the beneficiaries. The forward also scored with a header when Bidco defeated Mathare 2-1 in the first-leg.
The goal galvanized Bidco, coming back stronger after the restart, dictating play and causing Mathare’s backline problems.
One of their numerous forays saw substitute Stephen Okiro score from another setpiece play but the goal wouldn’t count as he was adjudged to have committed a foul in the process.
And thus is how it would end with Bidco securing three massive points that edge them closer to retaining their topflight status for another season.
