Bandari FC forward William Wadri has been named February Betking Premier League player of the month at an award ceremony held at the Goan Institute on Friday morning.
Wadri, who was instrumental in Bandari’s 100% run in February beat Sofapaka’s Lawrence Juma to become the third recipient of the award this season. Others who made it to the preliminary nominees’ list include Tusker FC’s Jackson Macharia, Eric Gichimu of Bidco United, and Bandari keeper Justin Ndikumana who conceded just one goal all month.
In the month of February, Wadri was in spectacular form scoring three goals, assisting one, and creating four chances that directly led to goals for the Mombasa-based Dockers.
He began the month with a goal in the 1-0 win over Kariobangi Sharks at Utalii Grounds. He then got a pair in the 2-1 win over AFC Leopards at Mbaraki Sports Club.
He then got an assist and created two chances in the 5-0 demolition of Vihiga United at Mbaraki Sports Club. He was once again involved in the last game of the month against Ulinzi Stars where he created two chances that led to their 2-0 win at Kericho Green Stadium.
For his troubles, the Ugandan attacker walks home with Ksh. 50,000 and a personalized trophy courtesy of Betking Premier League.
He becomes the third recipient of the award after AFC Leopards’ Elvis Rupia who won the December accolade and Henry Meja of Tusker FC who walked home with the February award.
