Mombasa-based Betking Premier League side, Bandari FC has appointed Andre Cassa Mbungo as its new head coach, six matches into the new season.
The Rwandese replaces Ken Odhiambo who ditched Bandari for Sofapaka two weeks ago. Mbungo watched from the terrace as the Dockers whipped Western Stima 2-0 on Sunday afternoon at Mbaraki Sports Club.
Mbungo is not a stranger to Kenyan football, he was in charge of AFC Leopards in 2019 before quitting at the end of 2019. He returned home where he took charge of Rayon Sports and later Gasogo United.
He is now back to Kenya’s top tier and this time he will tasked with leading sixth placed Dockers.
“Amewasili mgeni wetu, sasa amekuwa mwenyeji karibu sana Al Bandar (Our guest is here, he is now a native, welcome to Al Bandar),” Bandari posted on social media.
Mbungo’s first assignment as Bandari coach will be an away match against Zoo FC scheduled for Saturday 9th January at Afraha Stadium in Nakuru.
He however joins the team at a time they have three serious injury concerns. Shaban Kenga will probably miss the remainder of the campaign after breaking his left foot on Sunday against Stima. William Wadri and Collins Agade were also forced off during the match.
