Bandari draw lifts Stima out of the drop zone

Relegation threatened Western Stima picked up a crucial point in their bid to avoid the drop this season as they played to a 1-1 draw with visiting Bandari FC in a BetKing Premier League (BPL) Round 19 tie played at the Moi Stadium in Kisumu on Friday 28 May.

Goals from Ken Odhiambo and Umaru Kasumba settled the affair in Kisumu with the point earned lifting Stima out of the relegation zone.

A point

Juma Abdalla’s charges now sit in 15th place with 13 points, a point above Vihiga United who occupy the relegation playoff slot.

For Bandari the point, though positive, doesn’t see them cement their hold on 5th place on the log and now drop down to 6th thanks to Kakamega Homeboyz’ big win away to Posta Rangers also on Friday.

After a scoreless opening stanza, the game sprung into life in the second with Stima the first to draw blood through forward Odhiambo just six minutes after the restart.

Bench power

Not looking to suffer defeat for the second game in succession, Bandari head coach Andre Cassa Mbungo looked towards his bench after Stima’s goal and therein found the answer.

The Rwandese tactician made a triple substitution in the 62nd minute with one of them being Ugandan forward Kasumba. And just three minutes after his introduction, the former Sofapaka player repaid the faith put in him by his coach by netting the equalizer.

And that is how it would remain with Stima denying Bandari the season’s double over them.
