Bandari Downs Hardfighting Sofapaka in MOMBASA

Bandari FC began their 2020/21 Betking Premier League with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Sofapaka in a match played at the Mbaraki Sports Club on Saturday afternoon.

The hosts started the match on a positive note in search of an early opener. Yema Mwana had two great chances inside the first five minutes but he failed to breach the Batoto Ba Mungu rear guard that did well to contain the early pressure.

The goal did finally come in the 20th minute through Harambee Stars winger Abdallah Hassan who beat Kevin Omondi on Sofapaka goal with a thunderbolt.

Sofapaka made their first change in the 40th minute introducing Sammy Imbuye for Jedinak Nana. Both teams had chances to get more goals before the halftime break but they failed to utilize them, Bandari took a narrow lead to the break.

The second stanza was more balanced with Batoto ba Mungu showing more attacking intent in the game. New Sofapaka signing Michael Karamor found the back of the net in the 65th minute the goal was chucked off by the offside flag.

Sofapaka’s pressure yielded no fruits and in the end the hosts picked three precious points. Bandari are joint second in the table with Kakamega Homeboyz. AFC Leopards, who defeated Tusker FC 2-1 top the league.
