AFC Leopards clawed Wazito 2-1 at Utalii grounds in this Betking Premier League (BPL) match on Saturday.

Before Saturday, Wazito  had not lost in a game they had scored first but AFC Leopards changed that with an impressive attacking performance and now remain four poinst behind leaders Tusker.

Wazito named an unchanged lineup from their previous game while there was surprise from the AFC lineup with marksman Elvis Rupia starting on the bench.

Leopards started  with attacking intent, hoping to put their poor results behind them with Austin Odhiambo unleashing a ferocious shot which hit the crossbar.

Austin then showed his dribbling skills but unselfishly tried to pass instead of shooting but the ball was hastily cleared.

The lively Austin then made a good delivery into the area but Bienvenue Shaka could not direct his header goalward. Wazito who by then had not created any meaningful chance nearly scored after Musa Masika capitalized on Collins Shivachi losing the ball but his effort towards the far corner went wide.

Wazito finally got the lead against the run of play after a Kevin Kimani free kick was spilled by Benjamin Ochan and Michael Owino was in the right place to give his side the lead with his third goal of the season.

Despite that blow, AFC continued attacking and had an effort cleared off the line before the halftime break.

Rupia and Clyde Senaji were introduced at halftime and the substitutes combined for Ingwe’s leveler.

A quick interchange started from Senaji to Caleb Olilo to Rupia and his cross was spilled by Fredrick Odhiambo leaving Shaka who by then had missed a host of chances to make it right as he scored his third of the campaign.

They nearly took the lead after a nice cutback from Harrison Mwendwa found Marvin Nabwire in space but he did not connect with the ball well and the ball went wide.

Wazito were left red faced after Maurice Owino fell Hansel Ochieng in the area one minute from time and Rupia made no mistake from the spot, sending the keeper the wrong way and scoring his 14th of the campaign which is only one less than his personal best.

The win was their first in three games which also helped them leapfrog rivals Gor Mahia to third place.
