Omalla’s early goal stood out in our review of the proceedings of Matchweek 22. Here’s a summary of the opening day of the Matchweek.

In a KCB live broadcasted match that commenced earlier in Matchweek 22, Posta Rangers secured a significant victory over Ulinzi Stars, clinching a 1-0 win at Police Sacco Stadium. The match witnessed a dynamic start with Rangers’ Oliver Maloba missing a close-range header early on. Ulinzi Stars responded with pressure, but goalkeeper John Njau thwarted their attempts. Despite Ulinzi dominating possession, Rangers capitalized on a penalty converted by Felix Oluoch just before halftime. The second half saw Ulinzi striving for an equalizer, but missed opportunities, including a volley from Yakeen Mutheli. Substitutions on both sides altered the game’s rhythm, with Boniface Muchiri posing a threat for Ulinzi and Njau making crucial saves. The encounter lost intensity towards the end, as Ulinzi’s tactical changes disrupted the flow. With this win, Posta Rangers climb to second place, trailing Gor Mahia, while Ulinzi Stars remain in 11th position.

At the Sportpesa Arena, The Seals found a glimmer of hope as they broke their goal drought against Bidco United. Mudenyu, with precision, directed a header into the net from a corner kick expertly delivered by Balecho in the 7th minute, sparking jubilation among the team and fans alike. Despite Bidco United implementing a flurry of substitutions in the second half, The Seals managed to maintain their lead, showcasing resilience and tactical acumen. The Seals’ defensive fortitude and strategic gameplay enabled them to secure their advantage until the referee blew the final whistle.

The dockers wasted no time in asserting dominance at Sudi Stadium against league strugglers, Nzoia Sugar, as Hassan Abdallah swiftly found the mark in the 16th minute, setting the tone for the encounter. As halftime approached, Bandari held the advantage, but Nzoia Sugar mounted a spirited comeback in the second half, with Simiyu’s decisive strike in the 55th minute restoring parity and injecting newfound confidence into the home side. However, Kahiro’s clinical finish in the 71st minute tilted the scales back in Bandari’s favor. Despite both teams making fervent attempts to alter the scoreline, it was Bandari who emerged triumphant.

Elsewhere, Police FC demonstrated their unwavering resolve as they clashed with Shabana on their home ground, seizing an early lead in the 12th minute courtesy of David Okoth’s precise finish from close range, orchestrated by Kenneth Muguna. Despite Police’s strategic substitutions aimed at altering the game’s dynamics, Shabana remained vigilant, preventing further goals from slipping past their defense. The match concluded with a narrow 1-0 victory in favor of Police, highlighting their ability to grind out results even under pressure. They now occupy the 3rd position right behind Posta Rangers.

As the day drew to a close, Omalla ensured he solidified his position atop the golden boot standings soon after being reinstated to the game, having been benched in the previous match. Within just four minutes, he capitalized on a setup by Shariff Musa, expertly slotting the ball home. Although the match, broadcasted by Azam, witnessed City Stars remaining vigilant in their defensive efforts to thwart Gor Mahia from adding to their tally, Omalla’s goal ultimately proved decisive. Gor Mahia remains at the summit, now with three more points, indicating a resurgence in their form.

The second day of the matchweek is set to kick off on February 18, 2024, featuring an exciting lineup including Sofapaka FC versus Muhoroni Youth at Machakos Stadium, broadcasted live on Azam; K.Sharks versus FC Talanta at Police Sacco; KK Homeboyz against AFC Leopards at Bukhungu Stadium; and Tusker FC versus KCB FC at Machakos Stadium, also live on Azam.
