Michael Owino was the hero as he scored the all important goal in Wazito’s 1-0 win over Kakamega Homeboyz in a Betking Premier League match played at the Moi International Sports Center Kasarani on Friday afternoon.
The goal, Owino’s first of the season came in a scrappy fashion as striker pounced on a loose ball inside the area to score.
Wazito started the game strongly and had a great opportunity to go ahead in the first minute. Kevin Kimani delivered a good cross into the area but Homeboyz defenders did well to clear with Michael Owino ready to pounce.
Homeboyz’ best chance came in the 11th minute when they won a free-kick outside the penalty area. Captain Allan Wanga took the resultant free-kick but his effort was deflected for a corner. The resultant corner amounted to nothing meaningful.
Musa Masika thought he had given the hosts the lead at the half-hour mark after finding the back of the net following a great team move, he was however denied by the offside flag.
The match slowly turned to an end to end affair with both teams attacking and defending strongly. For Wazito, Kimani and Michael Owino looked dangerous while Shami Kibwana and Stephen Etyang were Homeboyz’s dangermen.
Against the run of play, Wazito went ahead in the 42nd minute. Homeboyz defenders failed to clear a loose ball inside the penalty area and Wazito striker Michael Owino pounced to fire home his first goal of the season.
Just like the first half, the second started on a high note Homeboyz resorted to long balls in a bid to breach the Wazito rear-guard. The hosts on the other hand looked dangerous on the break with Whyvonne Isuza running the show.
Homeboyz slowly took control of the match as they went all out in search of an equalizer. Wazito keeper Odhiambo pulled a couple of saves to deny Allan Wanga, Shami Kibwana, and David Odhiambo. Wazito on the other hand resorted to sit deep and use long balls to breach the Homeboyz rare-guard.
Wazito defended well and in the end picked an important win, their fifth in a row.
